About Christina Sherriff

Personal Profile

I have more than thirty years of experience teaching music, and have been part of the Ipswich Suzuki Group for the last fifteen years.

The Suzuki method of teaching music was created by Japanese violinist Shin'ichi Suzuki and has been developed for use with a range of instruments, including the piano.

Suzuki's central belief was that all children are capable of learning to play an instrument given the right encouragement. He also believed that this positive environment would also help to foster character in students.

The Suzuki method is ideal for young children to learn, and they can begin at three years of age.

As well as weekly individual lessons which parents attend, children are encouraged to take part in regular group lessons with children of about the same standard who are also learning the Suzuki method.

These group lessons include some work on music theory appropriate to their age. Every term there are informal recitals or 'play togethers'.
